Twitter Bans Roger Stone for Insulting CNN Anchors

In a text, Stone told BuzzFeed News that he was told the suspension was temporary.

"This is a odd way to do business and part and parcel of the systematic effort by the tech left to censor and silence conservative voices", Stone said Sunday in an email to Politico.

While Stone has never been a model of decorum on Twitter, his level of vitriol Friday, coupled with the direct, personal nature of his attacks on Lemon, prompted multiple users-including Lemon's CNN colleague Keith Boykin-to wonder Friday whether Twitter might crack down.

Stone's tweets, which have been archived by Deadline, referred to Lemon an "ignorant lying covksucker" and saying Lemon "must be confronted, humiliated, mocked and punished".

A spokesperson for Twitter told BuzzFeed News they could not comment on individual accounts and directed a reporter to the company's policy on abusive behavior.

"I wonder if these angry, racist Roger Stone tweets violate the @Twitter terms of service agreement", Boykin wrote.

Stone condemned Twitter following the ban, telling Politico that "the battle against free speech has just begun" and that he will take legal action against Twitter. Twitter said that its rules are enforced "the same way for everybody".

The high-profile ban of Stone comes as executives from Twitter, along with Facebook and Google, are set to testify on Capitol Hill about Russian meddling in the 2016 election. But he's been close to Trump since at least 2000, when Trump first toyed with the idea of running for President.

The feds haven't released the charges against Manafort, who ran Trump's campaign as he rose from outsider to frontrunner in the GOP primary, though he's expected to face tax fraud charges.

Stone has been a D.C. political operative since the Nixon administration, and was an adviser to the Trump campaign a year ago.

In the recent Netflix documentary Get Me Roger Stone, the longtime political operative and influential Trump adviser looks right at the camera and says: "My name is Roger Stone, and I'm an agent provocateur". His account on Twitter was swiftly suspended.
