PlayStation trophies can now earn PSN credit in America

It's not much, mind you, and the language surrounding the trophies section makes it sound as if these rewards can only be received once, but it's at least something for all of those grueling hours spent trying to get all the achievements in a game.

Firstly, users must link their PSN account to Sony's new Rewards program, which outlines that 100 silver trophies will net 100 points, 25 gold trphies is worth 250 points and if you're a completionist, 10 platinum trophies will get a cool 1,000 points.

Silver Trophy: Get 100 Silver Trophies while you game and earn 100 points. Unfortunately, there are a couple caveats - the promotion is only available in the United States, and you can't cash in PlayStation Trophies you've already earned.

As reported by DualShockers, players will unfortunately have to start from scratch, as they will have to register their trophies with the program as and when they're unlocked.

The Sony Rewards program also offers discount codes, or points for things like signing up for trial programs (four in all), subscribing to PlayStation Network services or buying and renting movies. This isn't a ton of extra cash for your purchases, of course, but it can actually help you play multiple free games.

All of this is good news for PlayStation fans but what about Xbox fans? A nice gesture of appreciation for trophy hoarders, or could Sony have done more?

If Microsoft does end up adding this feature in, it would be sad to see players not be able to use the gamerscore they have accumulated over 12 years.

PlayStation is not the only platform to offer achievement trophies, but is the first major player to offer associated rewards; both Steam and Xbox offer superficial achievements. All we know right now is it's being looked into and that's okay for now.
