Colts' Andrew Luck out for season after being placed on IR

For a player who only had a chance to play in three games past year with the Patriots, it appears Brissett has found a good landing spot to get playing time and display his abilities.

The team announced on Thursday that their franchsie QB would be headed to IR, effectively ending his season.

Luck, who missed the 2017 offseason workout program, training camp, preseason and the first few weeks of the regular season, was able to return to practice, albeit in a very limited role, on October 4 and 6, when he went through individual drills and threw some routes to receivers against air.

Ballard said on Monday, in an appearance on 1070 The Fan's Colts Roundtable Live, that the team and Luck "wanted to start getting some answers" after the cortisone shots didn't work as intended; the quarterback had, in turn, "gone to a couple other doctors just to get some opinions to see where we're at".

The Colts are 2-6 on the year.

Manager Steve Cooper said: "There isn't a bigger game they can play in their career at their age than a World Cup knockout game". In the second half, he drifted over to the right and set up another good chance for Brewster that could have been finished.

Brissett has mixed promising moments with the sorts of mistakes typical of a young quarterback who never was expected to be anyone's starter or centerpiece player so early in his career. He'll now have missed 26 games in the last three seasons. Or, perhaps more accurately, Luck would have to want to move on from the Colts.

Because of the way the Colts publicly handled this situation, I'll believe Luck is ready to roll only if/when he's back under center in 2018.

Yesterday, Indianapolis Colts fans finally heard the message they dreaded from general manager Chris Ballard, "On Andrew (Luck) - we're going to put Andrew on IR. When the complaints of the injury linger for a long time, the recovery takes longer". The doctors have told the Colts to have patience with the rehab process, he said. The job is his to roll with, knowing Luck isn't walking back into the huddle until next season. This is the right thing to do for him and the right thing to do for the organization. Some would argue this happened in part due to the Colts failing to properly protect Andrew Luck.

But because Luck thought the shoulder was still inhibiting his play, he opted for surgery.

"He was frustrated. He's a competitive guy, he knows the impact he has on a Sunday", Ballard said. He's a great warrior, he's a great competitor and he's a great player, one of the best in this league.
