Advertisers squeezed over Hannity sponsorship

Advertisers squeezed over Hannity sponsorship

The hashtag #standwithannity and the variant #istandwithhannity, #boycottkeurig, and #keurig are among the top trending hashtags promoted by these accounts.

Once Hannity's social-media army caught wind of Keurig's disavowal, some supporters filmed themselves destroying their Keurig coffee makers in retaliation.

On Thursday, The Washington Post published a story about Leigh Corfman, who said Moore initiated sexual contact with her when she was 14 and he was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney in Alabama. Three other women have also came forward with their own claims, detailing experiences when they were underage as well.

Moore spoke on Hannity's show the next day when he continued denying the allegations. "I don't remember dating any girl without the permission of her mother".

As advertisers flee from far-right Fox News host Sean Hannity over his defense of Roy Moore, Alabama's Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate who stands accused of child sex assault, Hannity fans have found a freaky way of showing their support: Smashing their own stuff.

Along with Keurig,, Nature's Bounty, 23 and Me and Eloquii also pulled their advertising from the popular talk show.

"We worked with our media partner and Fox news to stop our ad from airing during the Sean Hannity Show", Keurig announced on Friday, responding to a tweet from Angelo Carusone, the president of the left-leaning advocacy group Media Matters for America.

The 55-year-old has even promised to give away 500 coffee machines to replace those from Keurig which have been destroyed.

In Alabama, the legal age of consent is 16 and, until 2003, 14-year-olds were legally allowed to get married.

Keurig's decision sparked a backlash from Hannity supporters, some of whom called for a boycott against the coffee company.

"With the allegations against Judge Moore, none of us knows the truth of what happened 38 years ago", he said.

"Figured I'd let Keurig and all these other companies know we don't believe in your fake outrage being portrayed as some kind of virtual-signaling morality test", one man said in a video posted on Twitter.

This is not the first time Media Matters has pressed companies to pull advertising from Hannity's Fox News show.

"And consensual, that's true", said Hannity.

Critics of the coffee-maker destruction have said Keurig should actually be "celebrated" for pulling the ads. Besides Keurig, only four other companies have abandoned his program.

None of the five companies that pulled ads directly cited Hannity's coverage, but most of their statements were made in Twitter threads responding to complaints about the companies' relationship with the Fox host. Gamgort reminded staffers that the company advertises on all the major cable channels, rather than just Fox News.
