Samsung's Connect Tag tracker lasts one week on a single charge

Samsung has launched its Connect Tag, the "world's first consumer mobile product to use narrowband network technology". It's made to work with Internet of Things devices.

The Connect Tag syncs with GPS and WPS, or Wi-Fi position system, for tracking. On Monday Samsung unveiled its new device in gadget market named "Samsung Connect Tag" which can help you in having a track over your pet, your kids or over your non-living articles too. If the user loses vehicle in a large outdoor parking lot, the on-demand function will allow requesting any Connect Tag's location when desired, simply by pressing a button on the smartphone. Samsung Connect Tag, the company said, has also been created to ensure that parents never have to worry about the whereabouts of a toddler in the house. Apart from this, it has a "send my location" function will send their current location to the user and also has periodic location notifications to keep a track by maintaining a location record. It can, for example, be used to turn on the lights or TV once a wearer gets home, or to send a notification when a child enters a schoolyard or a dog wanders beyond the garden fence.

The product comes with an exclusive ring as well, which easily attaches to bags, collars or key rings.

Measuring in at just 4.21 cm x 1.19 cm, the Connect Tag is an incredibly small device.

The tag will be showcased at the Samsung Developer Conference 2017 in San Francisco, later this week. It also feature an IP68 water and dustproof rating, which means it can survive the occasional splash.

Samsung hasn't shared when precisely it will start selling the device, or how much it will charge customers for it.

There's no word on pricing yet, but the Connect Tag will be sold initially in South Korea, in the coming months.

As one of the main benefits of NB-IoT is its greater power efficiency, the Connect Tag can go a whole week without needing a recharge, according to Samsung.
