President Trump hints Cowboys players will stand for national anthem

Look, I have no problem with players protesting whatever they feel like protesting, I mean, this is America and they have the same first Amendment rights that I do, as well as every single American in this country does.

Before the game, the Cowboys and Cardinals added their voices to the wave of protests against racism and division across the United States as the players collectively took a knee.

The Cowboys, who didn't play until Monday night, made a decision to take a knee before the national anthem and stand with arms locked during it.

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick was one of the first players to kneel during the national anthem past year, in protest at the treatment of black Americans.

President Donald Trump says football players can protest during a game "but they cannot do it during the national anthem".

"There is no basis in the First Amendment that says that you can not kneel on the National Anthem or in front of the flag", Lee added, according to CNN.

Dallas Cowboys players, coaches and staff took a knee prior to the national anthem before Monday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Cowboys players - joined by team owner Jerry Jones - kneeled on the field before the national anthem; then they all stood and locked arms during the anthem.

While audiences shrank Sunday for NBC and Fox, the viewership boost from the Cowboys, one of the league's most popular teams, helped lift NFL ratings out of an early-season ratings slump. Jones and the team then walked to the sideline as the American flag was unfurled and stood, arm-in-arm, during the playing of The Star-Spangled Banner. "Big progress being made - we all love our country".

On the topic of declining National Football League ratings due to the protests, which Trump tweeted about on Tuesday, Jones flashed his genius by giving an in-depth explanation as to why that wasn't the case. "Make no mistake about that", Mr Jones said.

Many chose to kneel, some sat, while three teams opted to remain in their dressing rooms while the anthem played.

Trump has spent several days lashing out at players who kneel, a practice that started with a handful of players to protest racial issues, including police brutality.
