OJ Simpson Has Officially Been Released From Prison

The official Facebook page of the Nevada Department of Corrections posted a short video of Simpson's release in the early Sunday morning darkness.

"I don't have any information on where he's going", said Keast, who watched as Simpson signed documents and was let go.

The former National Football League star was released from a Nevada prison shortly after midnight on Sunday, October 1, after serving nine years of a nine to 33-year sentence for kidnapping and armed robbery. He was also accused of the 1994 murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, but he was later infamously acquitted.

"One hundred percent Mr. Simpson will be able to move to Florida", he said Sunday.

His longtime friend, Tom Scotto, told NBC News last week that Simpson was looking forward to playing golf, seeing old friends and spending time with family.

At his parole hearing, Simpson, known during his football career as the "Juice", said he was ready to spend time with his children and friends outside prison and could handle the public attention he would get.

In a statement previously issued to PEOPLE, Goldman's sister, Kim, and his father, Ron, explain that "while we respect the Nevada Parole Board's decision to release Simpson, it's still hard for us knowing he will be a free man again".

Nevada state prisons spokeswoman Brooke Keast told The Associated Press that Simpson was released at 12:08 a.m. PDT from Lovelock Correctional Center in northern Nevada. Once released, he'll be subject to parole supervision until September 2022. "The specter of his residing in comfort in Florida should not be an option". "Our biggest concern was our safety and the public's safety and not wanting anybody, paparazzi, to follow him", Keast added. He was ordered to serve a minimum of nine years before he was eligible for parole.

His intended destination is unknown, but he told the parole board that he plans on moving to Florida to be with friends and family. Simpson was convicted of stealing sports memorabilia during a botched heist which took place in a Las Vegas hotel room.
