'SNL' Adds Three New Featured Players for Upcoming Season

Saturday Night Live will welcome three new cast members when it returns September 30, as the iconic sketch comedy show tries to fill the void left by departing performers Bobby Moynihan, Vanessa Bayer and Sasheer Zamata.

Gardner and Redd have already had a fair deal of success in the entertainment industry prior to being cast on the program.

The 2008 Lakota East High School graduate will be one of three new "featured players" starting Saturday, Sept. 30, when Ryan Gosling hosts the season premiere. He appeared with "SNL" alum Andy Sandberg in last year's "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping", and also had a recurring role in Netflix's comedy "Disjointed" earlier this year.

While Redd, Gardner and Null are relatively unknown to wide audiences, they bring stage experience and comedic chops to the sketch show.

Like many Saturday Night Live cast members, Redd laid his comedy roots in Chicago by doing comedy at Second City.

As another Midwesterner transplanted to Los Angeles, Heidi Gardner hails from the famous comedy house The Groundlings.

A Cincinnati native, Null is a longtime vet of the Chicago comedy scene, formerly performing in the Newport Hounds comedy group.

Null, described as a musical comedian, lives in Chicago and performs at the iO Theater, an improvisation theater and training center.

Sure, there's been music from the likes of The Lonely Island and music videos featuring plenty of well-produced music on SNL in recent years, but an acoustic, singing comedian in the vein of Adam Sandler hasn't made waves on the show since Jimmy Fallon left the series years ago.
