NIA continues raids in Kashmir

A day after separatist leaders offered to court arrest before the National Investigation Agency (NIA), houses of some of their close aides were raided on Thursday.

The NIA on Wednesday conducted raids at 11 locations in Srinagar and 5 in Delhi in connection with the Funding case.

The NIA is said to be probing all aspects of funding to the separatist leaders and how they reportedly used these funds to foment unrest in the valley.

Sources said that the NIA sleuths raided the residence of Agha Hassan at Shariat Abad in Budgam soon after sunrise.

"During searches, FD worth over Rs one crore and lots of incriminating material, suspect financial records, property related documents and electronic devices have been seized", said the NIA press release.

"Sumji's house and shopping complex in Bijbehara were searched for nearly five hours while shopkeepers in his complex were also questioned".

With the arrest of two youth, the NIA has so far arrested 10 people, including spokespersons of both the factions of Hurriyat Conference, two sons and son-in-law of hardline HC chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani since last month after their questioning in Srinagar.

The NIA teams also raided the residences Zameer Sheikh and Razzaq Choudhary, both close aides of senior separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, who is in custody of Enforcement Directorate. It said that raids were conducted at 9 locations in Kashmir and one each in Jammu and Gurugram.

Besides, the NIA team also raided and searched the house of JKLF leader Showkat Ahmad Bakshi. "They are suspected of fuelling secessionist and subversive activities in the State", IG NIA said. "The NIA raided early today and searched the house till about 3pm", sources said.

The NIA sleuths raided residences of businessmen Abdul Khaliq Mir at Kralpora, Kupwara and Ghulam Rasool Magray and his neighbour Amin Magray of Sudarpora Kandi, Kupwara.

"There are links of hawala operators, funders and cross LoC traders have emerged based on which raids are being conducted".

Three senior separatist leaders, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Malik, had announced they would take out a protest march to the NIA headquarters in New Delhi and court arrest on Saturday.

As many as 34 companies of PoK were blacklisted to weed out any illegal activity on cross-Line of Control (LoC) trade routes after the recovery of drugs from a truck at Trade Facilitation Centre Salamabad Uri on July 21. This arrest came a day after Malik visited the residences of slain Hizbul Mujahideen militants Sabzar Ahmed Bhat and Faizan Muzaffar in Tral area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district.
