Details emerge on Seahawks trade of Jermaine Kearse for Sheldon Richardson

The emergence of Tyler Lockett and Paul Richardson alongside top receiver Doug Baldwin has likely made Kearse expendable, but it's unclear whether the Seahawks will find a trade partner plus the value they are looking for in exchange for the five-year veteran receiver.

Jets coach Todd Bowles talks about why he played his starters in the fourth preseason game, and Josh McCown's injury scare on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017 at MetLife Stadium.

For Kearse, it marks the end of an era, as the Lakewood native will continue his playing career somewhere else than the Pacific Northwest.

The Seattle Seahawks traded wide receiver Jermaine Kearse to the New York Jets for defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson, according to multiple reports Friday.

"Acquiring Sheldon Richardson makes the Seattle D-Line one of the more dominant lines in the league", said Q13 News Sports Director Aaron Levine.

Seattle will also send a 2018 second-round pick to the Jets and the clubs will swap seventh-round picks in 2018 as part of the deal. He'll immediately become a primary target with a Jets team in desperate need of experienced pass receiving options.

Last season, he hauled in 41 catches for 511 yards and one touchdown. He totaled 153 receptions for 2,110 yards and 11 touchdowns with Seattle. New York's newest addition should have an opportunity to slide into the No. 1 role ahead of Robby Anderson and ArDarius Stewart once he learns the offense. He's coming off a bit of a down year, with 62 tackles but only 1.5 sacks.

But he was suspended twice for off the field incidents.

Richardson was originally a first-round pick at the 2013 NFL Draft. On July 14 of that year, 12 days after his drug ban was announced, Richardson was arrested for driving 143 miles per hour during an apparent road race in St. Charles County, Missouri. But a continually rising salary cap makes such moves easier to handle.
