California governor declares state of emergency for wildfire

Huge flames are burning on hilltops and smoke is visible for miles around.

The route has since reopened.

About 1,300 structures remained threatened by the fire Wednesday.

A fire information line has been set up by Cal Fire at 538-7826.

The fire is under investigation as crews battle flames from the ground and air.

In Butte County, residents began evacuating neighborhoods Tuesday afternoon and continued to do so Wednesday. More than 1,000 firefighters are battling the fire that started on Tuesday. "CAL FIRE has long believed in and supported the SuperTanker; we will work tirelessly with them to get the job done in Ponderosa or wherever fire threatens our fellow citizens". He was taken to jail, and records don't show whether he is represented by an attorney. CalFire said that the cause was an escaped campfire and a suspect has been arrested.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the blaze about 70 miles (112 kilometers) north of Sacramento had consumed almost 6 square miles (15 square kilometers).
