Woman survives 28 days in woods by eating berries, mushrooms

Judy Garner, who was driving along Highway 82 in Bullock County, found Lisa on Saturday.

Theris said she remained very hungry but tried to keep moving and find her way out of the woods, but found she was often hiking in circles.

A woman who went missing in the wilderness has been found alive after almost a month of living off berries and wild mushrooms with no shelter, according to reports.

Lisa was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment but was later released to her family's home in Louisville, Alabama.

Lisa Theris's father was last in contact with her on July 18. "She was drinking water out of a brook and eating berries and mushrooms", according to Sheriff Rogers.

Lisa was last seen on July 18 near in the community of Midway, about 35 miles southeast of Montgomery. Theris told police that once she realized the men were going to commit a crime, she wanted nothing to do with the burglary and jumped out of their auto and ran into the woods.

Now, more shocking details are surfacing about her survival tactics. "She called us and told us she had located the missing person".

"She's not familiar with this area and apparently on the night she ran, she went into the woods at night and got lost", said Sheriff Rodgers.

'We didn't ask her too many questions, ' Rodgers said. We wanted to make sure her health was in the best shape and in the days to come, we'll get some answers. "Words can not describe the happiness and relief we feel that she has been found and returned to us", said her sister, Elizabeth Theris.

Since July 31, two men, Manley Green Davis, 31, and Randall Wade Oswald, 36, both of Pike County have been arrested on theft and burglary charges. Finally the young lady has been found and she's alive.

"[The motorist] went back. and there was the young lady in the wooded area".

Theris' brother Will wrote an emotional Facebook post along with a picture of his sister. "She had been out lost in the woods".

"She's in severe pain but is slowly improving", Lisa's brother Will said. "Her will to live is incredible", Bullock County Sheriff's Sergeant Faulkner said to WTVY. "And maybe she could give us some insight and fill in the blank spaces".

Faulkner said Theris' survival has been a "relief" to the entire department. The sister added that not a single inch of Lisa's body went unaffected by the month spend in the wilderness. However, the two men have not been charged in connection with Theris' disappearance. However, Lisa told them it was her will to live stemmed from her love for her family.
