Woman Found Alive In Woods After Month-Long Search

Woman Found Alive In Woods After Month-Long Search

An Alabama woman endured weeks of living in the woods in Bullock County until a passerby spotted her. Authorities say her story is truly a miracle. "I just thank God that she's alive".

The student, who was stranded amongst thousands of acres of bushland, told authorities that she survived by drinking water from streams and eating wild mushrooms and berries.

Theris has now been reunited with her family, but has declined to talk to the press.

Theris told police along with foraging for berries and mushrooms, she drank water from a brook and puddles.

The fortuitous sighting brought an end to a multi-county search for Theris who was reported missing on July 23.

Bullock Co. Sheriff, Buck Rodgers says that Theris lost all sense of direction in the forested areas after she fled from two men who were burglarizing a chasing camp.

Initially the Troy Police Department handled the missing persons report filed by Theris' father.

"Words can not describe the happiness and relief we feel that she has been found and returned to us", Elizabeth Theris said.

Officials say she had no idea the men meant to commit a robbery, and not wanting to be an accessory to a crime, the 25-year-old radiology student ran away from the men into the nearby woods. "I don't think she could have made it much longer", Garner said.

"We didn't ask her too many questions", Rodgers said. "We want to make sure her health is good".

"We're giving her some time to let her body adjust back to normal", Williams said.

Since July 31, two men, Manley Green Davis, 31, and Randall Wade Oswald, 36, both of Pike County have been arrested on theft and burglary charges. "So when I got word she was found alive, my whole world flipped upside down again". "Finally the young lady has been found and she's alive".

Theris' brother, Will Theris, shared a photo of his sister on Facebook Sunday. The two men, Manley Davis and Randall Oswald, have since been captured and charged.

"She had been out lost in the woods", he said. She has some complications and has a lot of healing to get through but she is standing strong and full of jokes as ever. "And maybe she could give us some insight and fill in the blank spaces". "My baby's alive", said Theris.

"She's in severe pain, but is slowly improving", he said. However, Lisa told them it was her will to live stemmed from her love for her family. "But she is as strong as they come and is handling it all as well as anyone. We are very thankful for everyone's thoughts and prayers".
