Warrant Issued For Northwestern Professor In Stabbing Murder In River North

Anthony Guglielmi, a Chicago police spokesman, said Wednesday that a Cook County judge issued first-degree murder warrants for Wyndham Lathem, 42, and Andrew Warren, 56, in the killing of Trenton Cornell-Duranleau.

Public records show the suspect lived on the 10th floor in this building.

Duranleau grew up in MI, but most recently lived in an apartment building near West 22nd Place and South Wood Street in Pilsen.

Lathem is friends with the victim on Facebook but their relationship is not yet clear.

Wyndham Lathem is a microbiology professor at Northwestern University in IL, who specialises in the bacteria that caused the bubonic plague.

Students at Northwestern say they are shocked today to hear these allegations.

Lathem, an associate professor of microbiology-immunology at Northwestern, has been placed on administrative leave and banned from all of the university's campuses, Alan K. Cubbage, vice president for university relations, announced in a statement.

"There is no indication of any risk to the Northwestern community from this individual at this time", Cubbage said in a statement. Cornell-Duranleau, who was living in Chicago, was licensed as a cosmetologist in his native MI, according to Michigan's Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
