Tranquil weather on tap is the calm before some weekend storms

As this cold front approaches us on Thursday, we'll see a few showers and storms during the afternoon. Don't expect highs much warmer than the lower 80s today. Light and variable wind becoming north 5 to 8 miles per hour in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%. With all the clouds and some rain, highs probably don't get too far into the 80s. While upper-level winds are forecast to become more favorable for development by the weekend, dry air aloft could limit the system's thunderstorm activity, making the overall environment only marginally conducive.

Starting next week, rain chances will go up to 30% Monday then 40% Tuesday. Partly cloudy skies should return Thursday with afternoon temperatures in the middle 90s. Even though the rain chances don't look almost as impressive anymore, the same computer models still paint a fair amount of cloud cover overhead. The high will be about 80 degrees.

Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Tuesday-Wednesday: Mostly Cloudy with Good Chance for Showers and Storms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79.

As we move into the Friday, meteorologists say there is the potential for unsettled weather not only Friday night, but off and on through the weekend. Partly sunny, with a high near 82.
