Prince Philip is officially retiring at the age of 96

In his capacity of Captain General of the Royal Marines, the Queen's husband attended the finale of the 1664 Global Challenge - a 1,664-mile trek in aid of charity.

Since his wife Elizabeth II became queen in 1952, Prince Philip has also attended countless events by her side, but the nonagenarians have increasingly handed over responsibilities to the younger royals.

He was also met with cheers as he was handed the Challenge baton.

In May, The Sun published an article titled: "Prince Philip dead at 95, how did the Duke of Edinburgh die, etc etc".

Wednesday's parade in Buckingham Palace's forecourt was Prince Philip's 22,219th solo engagement since 1953.

Buckingham Palace had hinted earlier this year, when announcing the Duke's planned retirement, that he "may choose to attend certain events, alongside the Queen, from time to time". He has given almost 5,500 speeches, made more than 600 overseas trips and served as patron for almost 800 organizations.

While Prince Philip's life had not turned out as expected, Brandreth said the duke once told him: "I tried to make the best of it".

Singh, a close aide of Thakur leader Raja Bhaiya, used the nationalism plank to justify abandoning the Samajwadi party. He also praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath and said, "At least, there has not been any scam yet".

It was a fitting final engagement for the Duke of Edinburgh: the former Royal Navy officer celebrated feats of strength and endurance by the Royal Marines.

Philip, who's the longest-serving royal spouse in British history, has carried out an astounding number of duties over the last six decades.

The announcement in May that the Duke was stepping down came after a day of speculation that the steadfast companion of the Queen for 70 years may have died.

Philip has carried out 637 overseas visits on his own in the past 65 years, given nearly 5,500 speeches, and served as patron, president or member of more than 780 organizations.

As online news organisations clamoured to post reports of the duke's final engagement, something went awry at one site, which mistakenly published an article erroneously announcing the Royal's death.

The 96-year-old has bowed out of public duty, at the Captain General's parade of the Royal Marines.
