IL resident wins Mega Millions jackpot

"The Illinois Lottery urges the lucky victor to immediately sign the back of the ticket and keep it in a safe place until they visit one of the Lottery's five Prize Centers in Chicago, Des Plaines, Rockford, Springfield or Fairview Heights", the Illinois Lottery said in a news release.

At $393 million, this is the largest Mega Millions jackpot in nearly a year and is the fifth-largest prize amount in the Mega Millions' 15-year history.

The ticket matched all the numbers drawn in Friday's Mega Millions jackpot. It has an estimated cash value of $246 million. One ticket was sold in Washington, and the others were sold in California and Ohio. This week was also the first instance when both Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots surged past the $350 million mark.

The two games haven't yielded any winners for 34 straight drawings, but hopeful players told News 12 they were hopeful that there will be new millionaires made Friday and Saturday nights. The victor will also get to take home cash amounting to $224 million.

If you're buying dozens of tickets, that can make going through them once the numbers are announced a little easier; although with $356 million on the line I imagine I would still meticulously go through all my tickets anyway before tossing them.
