Guardiola says 'nothing has changed' in £22m Evans chase

Guardiola remains keen to strengthen his defensive options and will pursue a deal for West Brom centre-back Jonny Evans despite seeing a £18m bid rejected by the West Midlands club.

West Brom are thought to want at least £30 million for Evans and Tony Pulis has admitted he will not stand in the former Manchester United defender's way if their valuation is met but City are adamant they will not be held to ransom.

Pep Guardiola is convinced his Manchester City squad is already good enough for the coming season, despite the continuing search for new players. "We are going to see how the market finishes at the end of the window". Jonny is one of our best players and we'd love him to stay. If someone comes, then we'll be happy too. "We try to do our best, sometimes it's possible, sometimes not". Sometimes it's possible, sometimes not.

'Every season I start believing my players are the best.

'Evans is a player for West Brom.

"The two things are that we don't want to sell him and we don't need to sell him", Pulis said. They don't play in the first team just for the fact they are in academy.
