Barcelona to Sue Neymar for €8.5m for Contract Breach

Neymar signed a contract extension with the Catalan giants in October previous year before leaving for Paris earlier this month in a €222 million deal.

Neymar on Sunday criticized the directors of the club after scoring twice on his home debut for PSG in a 6-2 win over Toulouse.

The club also demanded that Neymar pay back the sum he received when he extended his contract a year ago, given that the Brazil forward has now paid his 222 million euros ($261 million) buy-out clause to join Paris Saint-Germain, reports Efe. The club also claims that the Paris Saint-Germain subsidiarily assumes payment of these amounts in case the player cannot take over.

"There were three conditions - one, that the player didn't negotiate with another club before July 31; two, that he publicly expressed his decision to fulfil his contract; and three, the payment was to be made on September 1 to ensure he didn't go to another club", Vives said.

"FC Barcelona have taken these steps in order to defend their own interests after Neymar rescinded his contract with the club just a few months after signing a renewal until 2021".
