The Times and CNN are also reporting that Barson's family has filed a wrongful death suit against Williams.

She believes that Williams is responsible for the accident, though Williams has not been formally charged.

"I mean, I'm just." she continued, before stopping to cry.

Williams made a couple of verbal attempts to express herself, then spent more than a minute trying to gather herself before temporarily leaving the news conference.

Venus Williams broke down in tears during a Wimbledon press conference on Monday when she was asked about her involvement in a fatal vehicle crash. "My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Jerome Barson and I continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers", Williams, 37, shared on Facebook.

But as reporters continued to press about the accident last month in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Williams said that in "life, you can't prepare for everything ..." Williams said, before she broke down in tears.
