Two MLCs from SP resign, time it with Amit Shah arrival

SP MLC and Rashtriya Shia Samaj founder Bukkal Nawab today tendered his resignation from the party while singing a favorable tune for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath.

Two SP MLCs Bhukkal Nawab and Yashwant Singh along with BSP member Thakur Jaiveer Singh have resigned from the membership of the Legislative Council, confirmed Council Speaker Ramesh Yadav here.

While speaking to the press, Nawab said that the Samajwadi Party should change its name to Samajwadi Akhaada (arena) since it has become a wrestling ground. The development came hours after BJP's national president Amit Shah reached Lucknow on a three-day visit, fuelling speculations that the three may soon join BJP and some others may follow suit in the near future. One BSP MLC also resigned from the party and the Vidhan Parishad. He also praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath and said, "At least, there has not been any scam yet".

Mr. Singh, a close aide of Thakur leader Raja Bhaiya, used the nationalism plank to justify abandoning the Samajwadi party.

Giving reasons behind his resignation, Yashwant Singh said that he was not happy with Akhilesh's recent statement on the current India-China tensions.

Former UP Chief Miniter Akhiesh Yadav has blamed the BJP for the resignation of party leaders.

The development comes days after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar dumped the RJD and the Congress in the neighbouring state and took the support of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to continue in power. I dare them to go to the people and get elected.

The political grapevine has also been abuzz with rumours that should Maurya vacate his Lok Sabha seat, BSP supremo Mayawati - who recently resigned from her Rajya Sabha seat - could contest the Phulpur by-poll as a joint candidate fielded by the Opposition - an advice that was mooted by RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav before the collapse of the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar.

Mr. Maurya said the resignations were the "personal matter" of SP leaders.
