Amusement ride inspections are handled differently state by state, with no federal oversight.

The midway said they have not had an issue with the Fire Ball since they first got it in 2001.

Ohio Department of Agriculture records showed passing marks on inspections of about three dozen items, including possible cracks, brakes, proper assembly and installation. But the death of a teenager when a ride failed at the Ohio State fair this week has put a damper on the usual festivities.
