North Korea raised the stakes with its launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile as Americans celebrated Independence Day on July 4.

Both countries on Friday reiterated calls for China to use its influence over North Korea to get the pariah state to abandon its missile program.

According to the u.s. official, the test should be either a missile of intermediate range, is an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the KN-20 or Hwasong-14.

USA officials said on Tuesday they have seen increased North Korean activity that could be preparations for another missile test within days.

The United States, along with its ally China, is reportedly making progress with its discussion with North Korea in imposing new United Nations sanctions due to its missile test, but the engagement of Russian Federation will be true test as stated by United States Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley.

The U.S. gave China a proposed resolution several weeks ago, and U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley told reporters that China has been negotiating with its close ally Russian Federation on possible new sanctions.

For years, North Korea has not shown the capability to develop a missile that can traverse the higher atmosphere without damaging its warhead. From a purely military point of view, North Korea's artillery and nuclear arms hold too many civilians in Seoul at risk. The nature of these military exercises goes beyond securing a border, and they mimic fighting a nuclear-armed adversary.

Sending food aid to an adversarial nation spending billions of dollars to build nuclear weapons and long-range ballistic missiles, in defiance of U.N. resolutions banning such development, is also a controversial issue.
