Konta beats Garcia in Wimbledon last 16

Konta beats Garcia in Wimbledon last 16

FRANCE'S Caroline Garcia is embroiled in an illegal coaching storm after her Wimbledon defeat to Johanna Konta.

"However, it's many, many months ago now". So I feel very excited and very humbled to be sharing the court with her again.

Pliskova was won four singles titles in the last 52 weeks, the period from which the rankings are derived.

The seventh-seeded Croat beat Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-2, 6-2. However, it is clear that Rafael Nadal is back.

Despite some outstanding first serve stats for Konta, it was Simona Halep that seemed to pick up a lot quicker.

The 24th-seeded American had eight aces while Wozniacki had zero. It comes exactly a week after ticketholders saw two successive matches on the same court finish in the second set as players retired hurt.

However, her tennis career nearly ended before it began after she lost her financial support when the team had its funding cut.

Then as millions of TV viewers watched on she accepted a welcoming arm from 72-year-old John, helped him twist his phone into position for the best photo and posed for a snap. After beating Osaka and Konjuh, up next for Venus there's another, the most interesting, inter-generational clash against the French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko.

Williams served pretty much impeccably, hitting seven aces and winning 31 of 36 first-serve points. "So did okay physically at the end", he said after Friday's win. With a victory over Konta in the quarterfinals, Halep will likely become the world No. 1 after Germany's Angelique Kerber was defeated by Garbine Muguruza of Spain in the Round of 16 on Monday. Twice she brought up break points over Halep, but twice the Romanian wriggled free, as the pair battled up to another tie-break.

Magdalena Rybarikova, who missed almost seven months after last year's Wimbledon because of injuries, is into the quarterfinals at the All England Club for the first time. Williams, the USA 10th seed, beat the Croatian 27th seed 6-3, 6-2 on Centre Court.

Vandeweghe faces Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova, who has a 17-1 record on grass this season.

However, El Salvador was resolute in defense and quick on the counter, even managing to generate more chances early on. ESPN Stats & Info noted it was the third straight game in which Hernandez notched a goal for Mexico.

Trump backs repealing 'Obamacare' now, replacing it later
Later in the week, the CBO drove another nail in the coffin by reporting Medicaid spending would decline 35 percent in 20 years. By this week's end, he wants to nail down changes that would assure the bill's passage after Congress' weeklong July 4 recess.

Qatar given two-day extension to meet demands from Gulf neighbours
Qatar's Gulf critics accuse Al Jazeera of being a platform for extremists and an agent of interference in their affairs. President Donald Trump , Turkish President Recep Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As for getting through to the second week for the first time, Garcia said: "It's an important step".

Each day during Wimbledon I'm building a picture of the ideal tennis player by looking at a different aspect of the game. Konta is now two wins from becoming the first British female to win since Wade in 1977. She has yet to advance past that stage. No retreat, no surrender for Venus Williams, at her 20th Wimbledon.

Play has started on the outside show courts at Wimbledon.

Another former finalist, Agnieszka Radwanska, was on No. 3 Court against Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Sunday is the traditional rest day at #Wimbledon, and the reset button is pressed ahead of a busy second week.

"It was a tremendous match, played at a very high level".

At 19, Konjuh was not even born when five-time champion Williams made her Wimbledon debut in 1997.

Amid controversies ranging from complaints of sexist scheduling to accusations of illegal on-court coaching, Johanna Konta and Andy Murray replicated the achievements of Virginia Wade and Roger Taylor in 1973 - and in so doing added another layer of statistics to the SW19 bedrock.

So too is Novak Djokovic.

The remaining fourth-round matches will be played on the other show courts at the All England Club.
