India has no intention to block Chinese investment: MHA

Sources have said the Indian and Chinese governments have been in touch over the tension, but the announcement by China's Foreign Office today suggests a hardening of its stand.

India has objected to road building, citing the pending ownership of the region. At present, China and Bhutan are engaged in talks over the resolution of the area.

Analysts say that the construction of a new road through the Chumbi valley would further endanger the "Chicken's Neck" - the narrow corridor that links the north-east with the rest of India.

China also said that India had "trampled upon" the Panchsheel pact by illegally entering into Chinese territory.

"I don't know whether India has considered China's security concerns while doing these things". "India and China's relationship has been on a downward trend recently and this in fact is yet another example".

The Chinese Embassy on Thursday described India's claim of Doklam region belonging to Bhutan as "groundless" and said that for any meaningful dialogue Indian troops must pull back from the area "unconditionally and immediately".

The stand-off has inspired a couple of editorials from the hawkish Global Times and the latest one calls for China to muster worldwide support against India and clamour for Bhutan's sovereignty which has been subjugated by India.

China and Bhutan started border negotiations in the 1980s, and have held 24 rounds of talks. The two countries are involved in a border standoff in the Sikkim section over the Doklam plateau. "China needs to put more efforts into establishing diplomatic ties with Bhutan at an earlier date as well", it said.

Despite blaming India for undermining its territorial sovereignty, Beijing softened its stance on the issue around the Kailash mountain and has agreed to open an alternate route.

"Although China recognized India's annexation of Sikkim in 2003, it can readjust its stance on the matter".

"Anyone who knows basic rules of global relations knows that so-called security concerns of India is to transgress defined boundary to enter the territory of neighbouring countries".

Last week, Chinese defence spokesman Colonel Wu Qin told that the trials of the tank, reportedly weighing about 35 tonnes, were taking place during military exercises.

China on Wednesday claimed that it has a "basic consensus" with Bhutan on the boundary and there is no dispute between two countries in the Doklam area, the centre of the current Sino-India military standoff.

"Obama believes India is important only because they share the same values, but Trump is very pragmatic, and he doesn't treat India as a valuable ally because New Delhi is too weak to confront Beijing", Hu opined.

Bhutan and China have been trying to come to a settlement on the disputed area for over two decades; Thimpu is therefore opposed to China's unilateral action in taking up road construction activity in the disputed territory.
