Arab Blockade: Qatar to seek compensation for damages

Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri, Qatar's attorney general, told reporters on Sunday in the capital Doha that the Compensation Claims Committee would handle claims made by private companies, including major firms such as Qatar Airways, public institutions and individuals.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain accused Qatar in a joint statement carried on Gulf state media of thwarting all efforts aimed at resolving the rift and said it intends to "continue its policy aimed at destabilizing security of the region".

The announcement came a day after Qatar rejected the ultimatum which, among other demands, included severing ties with Iran, stopping aid for the Muslim Brotherhood and other groups, and shutting down its Al Jazeera global TV network.

Eager to use any global legal means at their disposal to navigate the blockade imposed against it, Qatar views UNESCO as the ideal body to handle the complaints.
