Trump lashes out at 'bad,' 'conflicted' Russian Federation investigators

After the firestorm caused by Comey's firing, Rosenstein appointed Mueller, Comey's predecessor as FBI director, to take over the DOJ Russia investigation. Trump said on Twitter, calling the probe into him a "Witch Hunt".

Notably, James Comey, who was sacked by Trump last month, publicly testified this month that Trump had told him to ease off on his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who was under the FBI investigation for his Russian links.

"He's driving this", the White House official said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss West Wing internal deliberations.

The "man" President Trump is referring to is Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who wrote a letter recommending Comey be fired.

Though Rosenstein did not explain what prompted the statement, many political observers connected it to recent reports that special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the DOJ investigation into Russian election meddling, is also investigating whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice. Mr Rosenstein wrote a memo criticising former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey's handling of the email server scandal that was initially used by the White House to justify the firing of Mr Comey.

The White House has directed questions for details to outside legal counsel, which has not responded.

His aides try to change the subject when the president brings up Russian Federation, and aides have tried to reassure him the probe will clear him of wrongdoing - but he remains obsessed by what he believes is unfair treatment.

President Donald Trump has lashed out at the investigators driving the Russian Federation investigation as "very bad and conflicted people", responding angrily to reports that the special counsel is looking into whether Trump obstructed justice.

The Post reports the other members include: 'former national security adviser Michael Flynn, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Carter Page, who was listed as a foreign-policy adviser for the campaign'.

Trump also lashed out at the media, on a day that aides hoped would be focused on his decision to undo some of Barack Obama's detente with Cuba.

The transition official said the organization has also separately asked the General Services Administration to preserve records from the Trump transition that were transferred to its facilities after Trump's inauguration. The transition, a nonprofit structurally separate from the Trump campaign, continues to operate with a small staff.

"I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

This is what he said in May.

Friday's tweets are the latest in a week of angry social media responses by the president after a report by The Washington Post that Mueller was looking into whether Trump obstructed justice.
