'The Evolution of Wonder Woman' Is an Ass-Kicking Trip Through Time

Luckily, this opening box office for Wonder Woman has proven that there is an audience hungry for this type of film.

Thanks to those huge numbers, the Gal Gadot-starring superhero vehicle is shining on a new light on women in film.

After initial predictions estimated an opening weekend of $83 million at the domestic box office, Wonder Woman soared into theaters with a $100.5 million debut.

And Patty previously admitted she is "amazed" by how little changed from the first cut of "Wonder Woman" to the finished movie. Before "Wonder Woman", Jenkins' only feature was "Monster" - an Academy Award victor that she made more than a decade ago with an $8 million budget.

Aside from fans loving the character of Wonder Woman, many believe that Gal Gadot is just ideal for the role.

The upcoming Wonder Woman is seen as a milestone for many feminists. In 2015, only 1.9 percent of the year's largest grossing films were helmed by female directors, reported Maureen Down of the New York Times.

Plus, the female-driven film is actually splitting the typically male-skewing audience for the genre nearly evenly at 54:46 percent female, with 22 percent of ticketholders saying they'd pay to watch it again in theatres. This means that director Patty Jenkins - who came out fighting against an alleged former Warners exec past year - is having the biggest opening weekend for a female director in cinema history. "I personally feel like we're not really very patriotic, the country, in a certain sense". The Hollywood film seems dominated at the ticket window as the film has completely rocked the box office since it released.

In the meantime let's see how far Wonder Woman can climb up Amazon's Blu-ray bestsellers chart considering its enormous popularity on opening weekend. "And this is such an important time in the world for people to think about what kind of hero they would want to be and what we're going to do to save this world that I was honored to get to join in the dialogue". But, the range of powers Wonder Woman displays in her solo film are certainly formidable - even Thor himself believes she would best him in a fight. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

With one day left in the weekend, 'Wonder Woman' passes the $200 million worldwide mark.
