Congressional Democrats and Republicans put aside their political differences Thursday to play in the traditional Congressional Baseball Game a day after a horrific shooting left Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise and others wounded. The crowd chanted "USA!"

The rifle-wielding attacker - James T. Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, Ill. - died after being wounded by Capitol Police. Two lawmakers who were leaving practice when they encountered Hodgkinson before the shooting believe he was targeting Republicans.

"By playing tonight we are showing the world that we will not be intimidated by threats, acts of violence or assaults on our democracy", said US President Donald Trump, appearing on the park's giant screen but not attending.

His family said in a statement Saturday that Mika had undergone another operation and was expected to recover fully, according to NBC News.

"Both were purchased by the shooter from federal firearms licensees", the Capitol Police said in a statement.
