Insurance lobbyists meet GOP staff on ObamaCare repeal

Senator John Thune of South Dakota and Majority Whip John Cornyn exited a meeting of the Senate GOP caucus Tuesday afternoon and told reporters that there is now no consensus among members on what the final version of the bill ought to look like. Mike Lee, R-Utah, said in a Facebook video for his constituents.

"We're going to make every effort to pass a bill that dramatically changes the current health care law", he told reporters.

"The Senate is not a place where you can just cook up something behind closed doors and rush it for a vote", Sen.

Paul doesn't believe McConnell will have the votes to pass the measure and will have to re-negotiate it.

"We have not yet seen the totality of the language", Louisiana Sen.

"They have no interest in it whatsoever", he told reporters at the Capitol. For instance, the Senate version is expected to include more generous tax credits to make sure older, poorer Americans don't get hit with higher costs.

But the messy process that haunted the House has swept across the Capitol as senators from both parties clamor for concrete details on what exact provisions will be included in a bill that makes up almost one-sixth of the US economy.

Senate Democrats can't filibuster the bill because it's protected under special budget rules and only requires a majority vote.

McConnell said that Democrats were not invited into the Republican Conference to work on the bill but that "they made it clear they're not interested in helping".

Capito said on Tuesday she was also concerned the Senate healthcare plan might cap Medicaid spending and shift it to a lower growth rate in 2025.

US consumer prices dip 0.1 percent in May
The Labor Department said on Wednesday its Consumer Price Index dipped 0.1 percent last month after rising 0.2 percent in April. American consumers forked out a total of US$473.8 billion (RM2 trillion) for the month, 3.8 per cent above May of past year .

Unlike the House plan that passed before lawmakers got an updated cost, the Senate has to get those numbers from the Congressional Budget Office before they vote.

"That would be awful for society, it would be awful for the whole health care system, and everybody would be worse off", he said. Republicans have been sending pieces of the bill to the CBO, so it's possible the Senate could have a score early next week.

"I do think that in the end, reason and compassion will prevail in DC", Schlosser said.

"I'm still hoping we reach impasse and we go back to the idea we started with, which is repeal Obamacare", he said.

"The Senate will soon have a chance to turn the page on this failed law", said the Kentucky Republican.

Both look poised to die between the chambers after House Democrats voted largely along party lines to kill them.

As the Republican-led U.S. Senate prepares to vote - possibly by next week - to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, a new poll shows that 56 percent of Californians worry that they or someone in their family will lose health insurance coverage if the law, commonly called Obamacare, is dismantled.

A discussion draft circulating Wednesday afternoon among aides and lobbyists would roll back the ACA's taxes, phase down its Medicaid expansion, rejigger its subsidies, give states wider latitude in opting out of its regulations and eliminate federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

Pressed whether the president's advisers had viewed a bill, Spicer again said that he was unaware and added that he himself did not know "where we are in terms of a final plan".
