Donald Trump confirms he is under investigation for firing James Comey

"I'm growing increasingly concerned that the president will attempt to fire not only Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating possible obstruction of justice, but also Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein who appointed Mueller", wrote Democratic Senator from California Dianne Feinstein.

Rosenstein - in charge because Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recused himself from the investigation into the Trump campaign's ties with Russian Federation - then appointed Mueller as special counsel.

President Donald Trump admitted to being under investigation Friday, in a perplexing tweet that assigned blame for the investigation to "the man who told me to fire the FBI Director".

Trump's digital volley appeared to be trained at Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who recommended the firing last month of James Comey - an nearly unprecedented move that could yet imperil Trump's presidency.

The U.S. television network ABC, citing unnamed sources, reported that Rosenstein had informed Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand that he may have to recuse himself from the Russian Federation investigations as well, because of his memo to Trump about Comey.

The Washington Post reported earlier this week Mueller is investigating whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice when he told Comey he hoped he could "let go" an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Trump also criticized the change in focus of the investigation on Thursday, saying that it was run by "some very bad and conflicted people!".

Putin echoed Trump's criticism of Comey, saying it was "very strange" a former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief leaked details of his conversations with the U.S. president to the media through a friend.

President Trump is tweeting his displeasure with the direction of the Russian Federation probe, which reportedly is now veering into an obstruction of justice investigation.

The Post's information on Coats is based on anonymous sources who claimed Trump asked Coats whether he could ask Comey to back off the FBI's focus on Flynn.

USA intelligence agencies concluded in a report issued in January that Russian Federation interfered in the presidential race to try to help Trump win, in part by hacking and releasing emails damaging to Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

President Trump could have taken to social media Friday morning to celebrate the two-year anniversary of his presidential campaign announcement and unlikely political rise that followed.

The president launched his latest tweetstorm Friday morning, during which he once again blasted the mainstream media, described the probes of his administration as a "witch hunt" and seemingly confirmed that he is now under investigation. Comey said he believes Trump ultimately fired him "because of the Russian Federation investigation".

Rosenstein submitted a widely circulated memo to the president last month raising concerns over Comey's performance that Trump cited in his letter dismissing Comey.
