Check out teaser for Neill Blomkamp's experimental short films, Oats Studios

Neill Blomkamp has teamed up with the new short film company Oats Studios to release a series of experimental shorts, the first trailer for which looks as insane and epic as anything you'd expect from the "District 9" and "Elysium" director.

"The new world altered everyone", a voice says. The director of the Oscar-nominated District 9 was expected to be the next major voice in genre cinema, but after mixed reactions to his follow-ups Elysium and Chappie, and the rejection of his proposed Alien sequel (in favor of Ridley Scott's latest prequel), it seemed as though his future was uncertain.

The upcoming short films will be featured on the studio's YouTube channel and the Steam streaming service as well. "Adapt or die. Simple as that", the narrator ends.

The film revolved around the story of an Indian wrestler and his hardships to train his daughters to become world-class wrestlers. The Ali Abbas Zafar directorial, which released on July 7, crossed the Rs 300 crore-mark worldwide in its opening week.

We don't know exactly when this film will come out, besides "soon", or what its length will be, besides "short". These short films would be heavily monster focused, and the studio would serve as a testing ground for potential full-scale films.

If you'd like to keep up to date with Neill Blomkamp's short film project, you can subscribe to a mailing list at the official Oat Studios website. But while the director earned acclaim for his feature-length efforts, he got his start with shorter projects like Alive in Joburg - which became District 9 - Landfall, a short Halo film, and Yellow, a futuristic mockumentary about an Israeli military robot gone rogue.

Volume 1 "could be entirely free", Blomkamp mused through his Twitter account; the Oats Studio account repeated his suggestion that component parts from the experimental series, from raw footage and music to 3D models and visual effects, could be made available to purchase via PC games, software and movie store Steam. Check out the first look trailer below! Alongside the question, the director posted never before seen photos from a mystery project that turned out to be Oats Studio.
