Authorities: Teen Slain After Leaving Mosque, Man Arrested

Police in Fairfax County, Virginia, have charged a 22-year-old local man, Darwin Martinez Torres, with the teenager's killing but said it was an apparent road rage incident.

When the auto hopped the curb, they perceived hostile intent and began to run. He then took her in his vehicle to a second location in Sterling. FCPD Underwater Search and Recovery Unit members recovered Nabra's body from a pond in Loudoun County Sunday evening.

Fairfax County Police Spokesman Don Gotthardt told The Associated Press that while the investigation remains in its early stages and things could change, detectives have so far found no indication of a link "between the victim's faith or religious beliefs or the mosque and the crime itself". "Our investigation at this point does not indicate the victim was targeted because of her race or religion".

Autopsy results showed that Nabra died of blunt force trauma to the upper body.

Hassanen's father, Mahmoud Hassanen, wept as he spoke about what he would say to Torres.

"Why you kill my daughter?" For what? She didn't do anything to anybody.

"Pam and I are deeply disturbed by the assault and murder of a teenage girl in Fairfax last night", said Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam in a statement.

A steady stream of mourners visited the family's home on Monday. It has drawn support from celebrities, including Lauren Graham of "Gilmore Girls" and "Parenthood" and a graduate of Langley High School. On Monday, classmates decorated her locker.

Martinez is now being held without bail at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Centre. Immigration authorities put a detainer on him, saying he is a citizen of El Salvador and there is probable cause to believe he lacks permission to be in the US. Darwin Martinez Torres, 22, was later charged with murder. Police attribute the killing to "road rage", but the Muslim teen's parents blamed Islamophobic racism in statements to The Guardian and The Washington Post.

OH mother and daughters mysteriously found dead in home
Police report that this man has been inside the home for a few hours and that he knew the people who lived there. The crime scene is still active and investigators carried out a lot of bedding out of the home, police said.

The teen's friends told authorities that the driver then exited his auto brandishing a baseball bat.

Police arrested Torres after a search and later obtained a murder warrant charging him with her death.

Police say it appears that Martinez Torres was "so enraged over the traffic dispute that it escalated into deadly violence". The suspect was seen driving suspiciously in the area as police were searching for the teen.

Officers noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area during the search and arrested Torres.

Nabra's body was found Sunday afternoon in a pond in the 21500 block of Ridgetop Circle in Sterling, Va.

Police say he caught up to Nabra and hit her with the bat. The county prosecutor's office did not immediately respond to questions.

Torres is due in court July 19. In another apartment, her father, Mahmoud Hassanen, grieved with friends and neighbors while her mother mourned separately several doors away.

"She's one of a kind". Her friends sought help at ADAMS, the mosque said in a statement.

A vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Anne Plaza.
