Announcement Expected on Clippers Stadium Deal in Inglewood

With Seattle approving renovations for the Key Arena in order to lure an National Basketball Association or NHL team, the Clippers would be an ideal fit if Ballmer can't get the arena built. His dreams are finally coming to fruition. They are the No. 3 team at Staples Center in Los Angeles, behind the L.A. Lakers (NBA) and L.A. Kings (NHL). It's been a bit demoralizing playing home games with all of the Lakers banners watching over them.

The Clippers having their own arena could possibly be a step in the right direction for the franchise. The property is located on about 22 acres of land between Prairie and Yukon Avenue and bordered on the north by Century Boulevard. The team's lease to play at Staples Center runs through June 2024.

It is being reported that this week Clippers owner Steve Ballmer will announce that the team intends to sign an agreement with the city of Inglewood to explore building an arena in the city. Ballmer, who is worth an estimated $31.8 billion, bought the Clippers for $2 billion in 2014. Will it affect the free agency decisions of the players this summer?

The proposed agreement with the Inglewood City Council, which is expected to be approved Thursday, would give the Clippers a three-year window to complete an environmental review and other inspections before moving forward with the project.
