White House goes blue to honor nation's police officers


Monday is National Peace Officers Memorial Day, part of National Police week.

The White House will be illuminated with blue lights tonight to honor law enforcement, President Trump announced Monday.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy declared May 15 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day, and this week around the country will be National Police Week.

Fox said at least one law enforcement officer has died for each year Montana has been a state.

Officers from all over Minnesota have traveled to the State Police Memorial, where they stand in silent vigil for 30-minute shifts.

Honoring the men and women in blue who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Authorities say 143 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty a year ago throughout the country.
