John Wall sinks Celtics in Game 6 to keep Wizards' season alive

John Wall sinks Celtics in Game 6 to keep Wizards' season alive

The not-so-subtle jab mimicked Washington's all-black wardrobe ahead of the January 24 matchup, but Boston could not back up its bluster.

But John Wall's game-winning 3-pointer gave Washington a 92-91 win in Game 6 of the second-round National Basketball Association playoff series at Verizon Center.

Game 6 will be in Washington Friday at 8 p.m. and Game 7 back in Boston Monday if the Celtics and Wizards are deadlocked at 3-3. "He's anxious about winning". However, on Friday, Smith had to be pleased the Wizards were able to get the win, keeping his prediction alive for atleast another couple of days, even if it resulted in him on the receiving end of what looks to be a pretty hard slap.

"I really don't think we relaxed, I think they kinda surprised us", Wall said of the lackluster start.

Washington's Scott Brooks said with a smile: "I don't care what they wear".

The Celtics were up five with little more than a minute to play when a video review overturned a blocking foul on Marcus Smart, making it a charge and giving the ball to Boston.

Whether or not actual handshakes will take place between teams that dislike one another so much following Monday's Game 7 will be an interesting footnote to a series that has been hostile.

"We had our best on-ball defender on their All-Star", said Celtics head coach Brad Stevens. "Seems like it was meant to be".

But Bradley could do nothing defensively to stop Wall on the winning shot, coming off an inbound play that was created to get Beal the ball.

"I wasn't a great shooter coming in", said Wall, who made his first go-ahead three-pointer in the final 10 seconds of the regular season or playoffs.

"Don't come to my city, wearing all black, talking about it's a funeral", Wall told ESPN after the win. "Get these guys in the right situation and come out with the right energy and understanding our season's on the line". "They should have been motivated by everything else". Washington, which dominated the first quarter for most of the series, won both games at home by average of 23 points.

Aric Almirola wins Xfinity Series race at Talladega
Kenseth is regarded as one of the better plate-racers around, but he hasn't performed well in these types of races recently. The win was Almirola's first of the season in four starts and his first at Talladega .

In a tightly contested final quarter with nine lead changes, the Wizards responded with the best defense and the biggest shots.

Boston was up 87-82, but did not hold on.

"We put ourselves in position to win the game", said Al Horford, whose 16-foot baseline bank shot with 7.7 seconds left gave Boston their last lead at 91-89. "Couldn't finish it. We can't dwell on this".

Wall continued his trend of slow starts.

Beal had a game-high 33 points despite missing 7 of 8 3-pointers. Wall got going in the third quarter, though, and finished with 26 points and eight assists.

"I had nowhere to go".

Following 3-pointers from Thomas and Horford, Bradley's alley-oop dunk in the closing seconds sent Boston into halftime leading 42-41 despite shooting 35 percent from the field. But Beal disappeared for the final five minutes of the first half.

Wizards: Had lost seven consecutive elimination games at home.

While the Cleveland Cavaliers get plenty of rest, their opponent for the NBA's Eastern Conference finals remains to be determined, though that could be resolved tonight. F Otto Porter Jr. had zero points.

The hosts have won all 10 games between the Wizards and Celtics this season. Joked Brooks: "I'm going to talk to my lawyers".
