JAMES RODRIGUEZ has an agreement in principle to join Manchester United in the summer, according to reports in Colombia.

Jorge Mendes, the agent who represents both Rodriguez and United manager Jose Mourinho, will be expected to broker a deal between the two clubs if the move is given the green light.

According to The Sun, Arsenal are ready to rival Chelsea and United and will be prepared to meet his £50m valuation but much will of course depend on whether or not they can convince him to snub their Premier League rivals in favour of a move to the Emirates.

United are still to agree a fee with Real Madrid, however, with club president Florentino Perez waiting until the end of the season before making a final decision.

Manchester United are reportedly planning to offer David de Gea a new contract in an attempt to fend off interest from Real Madrid. The report, though, goes on to indicate that the Colombian's arrival at Old Trafford is subject to the departure of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney.

It remains to be seen how the La Liga giants would respond to such an offer but you'd assume they would be tempted to turn a quick profit on Morata and help fund a move for one of their own summer targets.

His comments were taken in the context that he is nearly resigned to leaving the his Manchester United era behind him come the close of this season.

The Red Devils' 10 shirt is now occupied by Wayne Rooney, considered "an institution" at the club, although he seems headed for the United States or China. Rodriguez will be looking forward to finally realize his potential at Old Trafford after three disappointing seasons with Real Madrid.
