Arsenal defeated Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday, with Alexis Sanchez starring for the Gunners in another top performance.

AFP | Arsene Wenger said Arsenal's "spectacular" FA Cup final victory over Chelsea was just reward for an outstanding display from his team as they refused to be divided by a turbulent season.

Victory was rich vindication for Wenger, whose Arsenal future is due to be decided by a board meeting on Tuesday, and allowed him to salvage something from the most hard season of his 21-year tenure.

The north London side finished in fifth place in the Premier League table and a point behind Liverpool to miss out on a Champions League spot.

"I am a little bit sad after what happened in Manchester but I grew up in Ireland so bombs did go off there and life does go on", Arsenal supporter Liz Johnson said while walking into Wembley. "Hopefully, he'll be there next season".

Equally, these must be the kind of occasions when Wenger is reminded what it is about football that makes it an addiction.
