Sasikala, Dhinakaran must resign for merger talks to begin: OPS

In a sudden turn of events, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister D. Jayakumar on Tuesday announced that the state ministers have made a decision to keep out jailed AIADMK leader Sasikala, her nephew Dinakaran and his family out of the party. "The decision is unanimous and based on the views of all ministers including Chief Minister, MLAs, MPs, public", said minister D Jayakumar after a meeting held at the Chief Minister's home last evening.

"They claim to have removed Sasikala's family but they have to take back the affidavit submitted to EC calling Sasikala as general secretary and TTV as deputy", Munusamy said.

The Supreme Court by dismissing the Karnataka government's review petition in J Jayalalitha's Disproportionate Assets case without giving an opportunity to the parties to argue their points of view has unintentionally contributed to the ongoing moves to unite the two factions of the AIADMK and retrieve the party's "two leaves" symbol frozen by the Election Commission of India.

Munusamy ruled out any patch-up talks if the above demands were not met by the rival faction.

His faction of the party and the one headed by current chief minister E Palaniswamy had been discussing a merger of the two factions.

Furthermore, the OPS camp has also demanded that Chief Minister E Palaniswamy recommend a CBI probe into the death of former CM Jayalalithaa, who passed away December previous year. However, he mentioned that Sasikala's elevation as General Secretary still invalid according to Times Now and added that both Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dinakaran are involved in corrupt practices. He added that the question, therefore, did not arise.

Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, who has returned to Chennai from Mumbai, may again have to play a role in ensuring smooth governance in the days to come. Law Minister C Ve Shanmugam said the party's welfare must be the priority and not "someone's personal whims and fancies".

Meanwhile, 6 party MLAs have extended support to Dhinakaran, said reports.

In-Ryong also cited U.S. military training drills with South Korean troops as "aggressive war exercises" promoting "real warfare". The DMZ is the highly-fortified de facto border between North and South Korea.

At a press conference in Pannerselvam's house, former Tamil Nadu minister and AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaiva Amma) leader KP Munusamy indirectly sought Palaniswami's resignation. Why should Thambidurai talk about Chief Minister post?

The dramatic fall of T T V Dhinakaran had the BJP's signature written all over, but it could be rivalry within Sasikala's family that put the final nail in the coffin of his political career.

He also dubbed Chief Minister Palaniswami as a nominee of jailed leader Sasikala.

Speaking to TNM, a source close to Dhivakaran denied that a "drama" was being played out by the ruling faction.

Dhivakaran had a feud with Dhinakaran in getting the reins of the party after the demise of Jayalalithaa, but the latter outsmarted him. Panneerselvam, who was the head of the government, refused to quit. But a speech he made in Thanjavur in January 2017 spoilt his chances.

Dinakaran is the nephew of the party's general secretary VK Sasikala, who is now in jail after she was found guilty in a disproportionate assets case.

However, the AIADMK's main faction has not commented on any development.
