PV Sindhu beats Carolina Marin to win India Open Super Series

The second game was no different as Sindhu and Hyun again engaged in fierce rallies with some brilliant stroke play. Marin was also magnanimous in defeat admitting that she lost to better player. Sindhu's net approach during the entire match was her strong point during the entire match. On Sunday, the World No.5 will take on arch-rival and top seed Carolina Marin of Spain.

Marin on the other hand, has been struggling with her fitness since past year and has been able to perform at her best ever since her Rio Olympics triumph.

On losing to Marin at the Rio Olympic Games previous year, Sindhu said, "Then (too) I was at my super best". The see-saw game continued till the 19-point mark. The week here at the India Open was good. Marin did manage to stage a comeback in the first game and led 19-18 but Sindhu was quick to win three points on the trot and pocket the first game, 21-19. Marin slowly found her feet on court and narrowed the gap. From the start both of us were fighting for every point. She opened up 9-4 lead and Sung was left to do the chasing from there on. The way she is carrying herself on the court, the rise in self-esteem after successfully dealing with most pressure-points and the ability to gauge the deception in Carolina's play increasingly well, all added up to give the Indian a memorable victory. Her exploits included the China Open Superseries Premier and the Syed Modi International titles, besides reaching the Hong Kong Open final as well as the semi-finals of the World Superseries Finals. But Sindhu held firm thereafter and won the game in 24 minutes.

"At 19-19 it could was anybody's game but I won the points after that".
