Atlanta Braves set 25-man roster for opening day

Syndergaard struck out seven without a walk in his first opening day assignment, the only blemish a blister on the top of his right middle finger that ended his outing. Or that the Mets, only minutes after what should have been a feel-good victory, chose to delay Syndergaard until Sunday night to give the blister a bonus day to heal.

Robert Gsellman came in to pitch the ninth and allowed back-to-back hits to begin the inning.

Chaz Roe relieved Ian Krol (0-1) and walked Yoenis Cespedes, loading the basis. A few more walks, a sacrifice fly and ultimately, a bases-clearing double from Lucas Duda turned the place into a ideal opening day celebration, a signal the Mets can only hope is a sign of more to come.

Atlanta starter Julio Teheran throttled the Mets as usual, throwing six scoreless innings before a sellout crowd of 44,384 at Citi Field. Hansel Robles worked a ideal seventh inning for the win. One out later, Jose Reyes walked and Cabrera singled to center field for his third hit.

"Yeah, we kind of have a big momentum shift right there and probably turns the game around", Braves manager Brian Snitker said.

Freddie Freeman had three hits for Atlanta, including a one-out triple in the fourth.

England blew chance to ruin Podolski's special night: Cahill
Burnley defender Michael Keane and Southampton duo Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse made their England debuts on the night. Keane had also fizzed an effort just over the bar within the first ten minutes off of a corner kick.

Pentagon gets OK for more aggressive airstrikes in Somalia
Mr Trump has designated certain regions an "area of active hostilities" where the Presidential Policy Guidance rules do not apply. USA special operations forces can move closer to the fight and call in offensive airstrikes more quickly.

Syndergaard worked into a similar jam in the sixth inning, when Dansby Swanson and Freeman each singled to put runners on the corners with one out, but Syndergaard again punched out Kemp, then got Markakis on a fly ball to left.

The Mets improved their baseball-best record on Opening Day to 36-20. A moment of silence was held prior to the game in honor of four recently deceased baseball figures: Former National League executive Katy Feeney, former Mets pitcher and manager Dallas Green, former Mets scout Harry Minor and Bill Webb, who directed Mets broadcasts on SNY. "I like being a little nervous", Bruce said.

Both players are good pitchers though Syndergaard is no doubt the flashier of the two.

Braves: Snitker said injured reliever Mauricio Cabrera (elbow), who features a fastball clocked at over 100 miles per hour, should begin throwing soon.

If the Braves are going to start out the season on the right foot they are going to have to take advantage of any mistakes that Gaard does make and stay close until getting into the Mets bullpen.
