1 dead, 2 wounded in shooting at upscale Florida mall

A gunman has been killed after wounding two people in a shooting at a busy mall in the upscale neighbourhood of Merrick Park, Miami, Florida.

There was panic in the gym when shots were fired, a witness told NBC-10. Coral Gables Police also confirmed two other victims were injured and were airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center. Their identities are believed to the the gym's general manager Jeanine Ackerman and a personal trainer named Mario.

Officials have reported that the scene has been secured.

About an hour after the shooting, a few people still in workout attire were outside the gym.

"I had just left Equinox", Shed Boren told the newspaper.

Witnesses at Soul Cycle, the Villagio Restaurant and the Yard House reported hearing the gun shots about 1 p.m.

According to Coral Gables Police, the subjects involved in the shooting knew each other.

Tim Hartog, general manager of Yard House restaurant, said the business was on lockdown for a time. One person said she was waiting to see if she would be allowed back inside to retrieve her belongings. On April 8, 2017, there was a shooting at the Equinox gym at the shopping center.
