Bristlecone Advisors LLC increased its stake in shares of Dollar Tree by 17.5% in the third quarter. Gross margin expanded 130 basis points (bps) to 32.1%, owing to reduced merchandise and freight expenses.

Net sales increased to $5.64 billion from $5.37 billion.

Dollar Tree ended the quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $866.4 million, net merchandise inventories of $2,865.8 million, net long-term debt of $6,169.7 million and shareholders' equity of $5,389.5 million. Finally, GLG LLC increased its position in Dollar Tree by 6.8% in the fourth quarter. Dollar Tree bought rival Family Dollar in 2015 and keeps the store's banner for some locations. Revenue was reported as $20.72 billion. Further, the company is progressing quite well with Family Dollar's integration.

Dollar Tree, Inc.is an operator of discount variety stores. The company intends to attract shoppers and enhance customer experience with its diverse reach and desired products.

The mean revenue estimate for the current fiscal period ending January 2017 is $5.62B by 21 brokerage firms. The guidance stems from comps growth in the range of flat to low single-digit increase and 3.9% increase in square footage. For the full year, the retailer projects EPS of $4.20 - $4.56 on revenue of $21.94 - $22.33 billion. The impact on sales and earnings from the additional week is included in management's outlook. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $5.33 billion. If we take a look at back 3 month ago, consensus EPS estimate was $1.32.
