Statewide gas price up a penny

State gas prices went up 1 cent in the last week because of maintenance at refineries on the West Coast, according to AAA officials.

In Tennessee, gas prices dropped two cents from the previous week for an average of $2.05 on Sunday.

For this weekly report, the auto club divides MI into ten regions.

AAA found self-serve, regular selling for as low as $2.05 per gallon and as high as $2.39. The highest regional report is $2.38 a gallon.

The rise in gasoline prices since February 15 has been the weakest since 2009, when prices fell due as the country was reeling from the recession.

The Florida average was $2.262, down from $2.274 a week ago. "With little warning or expectation, crude oil last week broke out of the rut it had well established, with crude prices falling out of a 3-month range of $51-$54 per barrel to $49".

For now, there's a major tug of war going on with oil prices.

While the drop at the pump is most welcome, we're almost guaranteed to see prices rebound well in time for Memorial Day and the start of the summer driving season.

Gas prices rose in just 18 states over the past week.
