Iran says Russian Federation can use military bases 'on case by case basis'

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday Syrian peace talks in Kazakhstan will continue under the sponsorship of Tehran, Russia and Turkey.

Elsewhere in his talks, President Putin said the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russian Federation do their best to increase level of their strategic cooperation and their friendly ties with mutual respect.

Russian Federation signed Tuesday a string of bilateral agreements with Iran as President Vladimir Putin hosted his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani for his first official visit to Moscow.

Tomorrow's meeting between Rouhani and Putin will the ninth meeting between the two leaders in less than four years.

A number of bilateral agreements are expected to be signed during his visit to the Russian capital at Putin's invitation.

During his visit, the Iranian president took part in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow.

"There's a big concern in Tehran that Moscow will use it as a bargaining chip for better relations with Washington", said Maxim A. Suchkov, the Moscow-based editor of Russia-Mideast coverage at Al-Monitor, an online news portal focused on the region.

"As for the JCPOA, cooperation between our countries will be continued".

A joint statement published by the Kremlin said that "special attention" had been paid to cooperation in energy, with both sides pledging to continue efforts to stabilize the global market.

Iran's foreign minister reopened the door to Russian use of Iranian airbases to carry out strikes in Syria, in another sign of increasing cooperation between the two countries.

Putin also hailed the countries' role in ensuring peace in Syria, where both Russian Federation and Iran have shored up Assad.

He added that Moscow has extended 4.2 billion dollars in loan to Iran for the construction of a thermal power plant and electrification of a railroad connecting the central Iranian city of Semnan to northeastern city of Incheborun.

Putin also threw his country's weight behind Iran's membership at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

But relations have eased between the former Cold War-era rivals and the armies of the two countries held their first ever military exercise previous year.
