Sean Spicer Says US Citizens Won't Be Targeted in Anti-Terror Efforts

"Almost everything went wrong", an anonymous official told NBC, which reports: "An MV-22 Osprey experienced a hard landing near the site, injuring several SEALs, one severely".

The death of 8-year-old Nawar will likely be used in militant propaganda efforts, especially since she is the second of Awlaki's children killed by the US. One of these was the first USA service member to die during Trump's presidency, who was later identified by the Los Angeles Times and other news outlets as Chief Special Warfare Operator William "Ryan" Owens of Peoria, Illinois. "Other children in the same house were killed".

"No American citizen will ever be targeted", Spicer told reporters on Tuesday at the White House, responding to a question about whether the Trump administration would consider striking USA -born suspected terrorists overseas. To make matters worse, several noncombatants were killed during the firefight between American and Al Qaeda forces - including an 8-year-old American girl named Nawar al-Awlaki, the daughter of the New Mexico-born Anwar al-Awlaki who was killed in an airstrike in 2011.

According to Middle East Monitor, the U.S. is already being blamed on social media for "assassinating children".

It was the first counterterrorism operation approved by President Donald Trump though USA officials note that given the complexity of the raid, planning for the mission began during the administration of Barack Obama. After the raid on this house, U.S. SEALs "entered another house and killed everybody in it, including all the women", Nasser continued.

Whether the USA should target its own citizens in drone strikes has been the subject of much debate.

Trump had previously advocated the killing of militants' families.

Al Qaeda's Yemeni affiliate is thought to be among the terror group's most capable franchises, having helped diorect the 2015 attack on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper offices in Paris. Responsible father or not, Nasser al-Awlaki has now buried his son and two of his grandchildren. Headlines emphasized that one US commando lost his life but made no mention of the civilian casualties. "This is the new [U.S.] administration - it's very sad, a big crime". The extremist group has been expanding rapidly in Yemen, where the USA has carried out a covert drone war since 2002.

Anwar Al-Awalki, a US-born cleric who directed attacks against the USA, was killed in a targeted drone strike in 2011. "That the United States had to kill the entire family".
