Malaysia and North Korea lock horns over killing of Kim

In addition to the North Korean man, two women who are alleged to have carried out the attack - a 28-year-old with Vietnamese travel documents and a 25-year-old with Indonesian documents - have been arrested.

North Korea's ruling Kim family is the most secretive dynasty.

If the Indonesian suspect was, in fact, involved in the assassination, it adds another question to the web of mysteries surrounding Kim's death: why did Pyongyang hire foreigners?

The case has unleashed a rash of speculation that Kim Jong Nam was killed on the orders of his half-brother, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The two female suspects have been remanded in custody for seven days.

"We need a DNA sample of a family member to match the profile of the dead person", the police chief told the Agence France Presse news agency.

A Malaysian official with knowledge of the investigation said medical workers started a second autopsy on Friday night, because results of the first one were inconclusive. Among the items seized by police were three US$100 ($142) notes.

A woman travelling on a Vietnamese passport has also been detained.

At the National Institute of Forensic Medicine at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, 20 local and foreign journalists were seen waiting for the latest developments in the case which has attracted worldwide attention.

The Indonesian woman, identified as Siti Aishah, thought she was participating in a television prank show when she squirted liquid in the victim's face, Indonesian police said.

However, a fourth man was also, reportedly, trailing Jong Nam before executing the assassination.

"Police say they are zooming in on the identities of three operatives from North Korea", NST said. While South Korea has blamed North Korea for a slew of notable assassinations or attempted killings in past decades, the North often denies involvement or simply doesn't comment.

A reporter holds up a local newspaper during his report in front of the morgue at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, where the body of Kim Jong-nam, the half brother of North Korea's leader, is held for autopsy in Malaysia, February 18, 2017.

Kim Jong Nam was estranged from his younger half-brother, the North Korean leader. He died en route to the hospital Monday after a suspicious encounter at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

"It is normal procedure as we can not release the body to just anyone", said Abdul Samah Mat, police chief of Selangor.
