Delphi, Indiana: Latest updates after two bodies found dead near trail

The discovery of the bodies of two 13 year old Carroll County girls, Abigail Williams and Liberty German along a riverbank in IN has caused disconcert, after the teen's deaths were discovered just hours after posting a snapchat photo along Deer Creek.

State police said in a press conference Wednesday that the deaths of Abigail "Abby" Williams, 13, and Liberty "Libby" German, 14, were being investigated as homicides. They are not releasing the girls' cause of deaths yet, citing the ongoing investigation.

When asked if people in the community should be scared for their families, Sgt. Kim Riley said parents should keep a close eye on their children.

The girls' bodies were found almost 60 feet from the water's edge on private property, Riley said on Wednesday.

Delphi Police Department, Carroll County sheriff's department, Indiana State Police and the FBI's Evidence Recovery Team were all coordinating on the investigation. He is not commenting on any injuries to the bodies or ages.

"I think people are smart enough in our community to draw their own conclusions about what they should feel and what they shouldn't feel", he told Fox59.

People living in Delphi were concerned when the two girls went missing because it is a small town in northwest in and has a population of only around 3,000, with a close-knit community.

The friends were supposed to be picked up by family later that afternoon but they never showed up to the pickup location.

The girls were last seen in a photo posted to German's Snapchat account showing Abigail walking along the bridge. "We suspect foul play".

The initial view of police was that there was no foul play suspected, or that the girls were in danger, but as the night passed, their view changed.

Police, firefighters and volunteers searched the area until around midnight Monday and restarted the search when it became light outside Tuesday morning.
