Best Actress Nominee to Miss Academy Awards

Natalie Portman, due date quickly approaching in her third trimester, will not be attending the Oscars tonight because of her pregnancy. The drama follows first lady Jackie Kennedy in the days after her husband - President John F. Kennedy - is assassinated.

Natalie Portman will miss the 2017 Oscars on Sunday and the Spirit Awards the day prior because of her pregnancy, according to a statement acquired by Variety.

"I feel so lucky to be honored among my fellow nominees and wish them the most lovely of weekends", the 35-year-old continued.

Portman and her husband, Benjamin Millepied, are expecting their second child.

Portman stunned in a yellow gown while visibly pregnant at the Golden Globes in January and also tried to hide her bump in a black sheath dress at the Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon on February 6. The two have a five-year-old son together named Aleph.

So she's tasted victory before, but it's been a long six years since she took that well-deserved turn on the Oscar stage. She's been widely praised for her performance.

Dev Patel, who rose to fame with "Slumdog Millionaire", is also nominated in the best supporting actor category for his portrayal in "Lion".

The Hollywood star's absence will no doubt come as a shock to many.

At least, that's what Natalie Portman is saying.
