The Senate Education Committee is expected to vote on her nomination Tuesday before the recommendation heads to the Senate. Casey earlier this month grilled DeVos after she admitted she would not follow Obama administration Title IX guidelines, which among its provisions, direct how schools, colleges and universities treat sexual assault and harassment allegations. She's pushed voucher programs and charter schools.

DeVos, a billionaire Republican education activist, has been a longtime advocate for pro-school choice policies, including school choice, charter schools and school vouchers, both nationally and in her home state of MI.

Other outlets, such as Politico, remind us that during her hearing she showed gross ignorance about how the public school system operates.

In an opinion piece published Monday by The Hill, a nonpartisan political newspaper and website, Bryant wrote that DeVos has the "ideas, vision and leadership" needed to serve as Secretary of Education. The National Education Association - the nation's largest teachers union - has excoriated DeVos for her support of charter schools and vouchers.

This isn't the first time Bryant has spoken out in favor of DeVos's nomination. Alexander: Yes, Betsy DeVos is an education extremist. "This was not a nominee I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt".
